Penicuik Estate Guests
From the moment you arrive, to the moment you leave, our goal is that you don't have to worry about a thing. If you can't find an answer to a question below, please contact Julia or Ethan directly. Once you arrive, we ask that you direct questions to the Penicuik Estate staff so we can relax and enjoy the weekend.

October weather can be unpredictable, with temperatures ranging from ~6–14 °C / 43–57 °F. Its worth adding a few essentials to your packing list to ensure you're comfortable:
Waterproof jacket, ideally with a hood. You will quickly learn that umbrellas do very little good in Scotland when the rain is often paired with wind.
Warm layer, like a fleece, down jacket, or cozy sweater.
Waterproof footwear, if you're planning on doing any exploring of the estate, you may need waterproof shoes or boots. For House Guests, the venue has wellies for you to borrow.
Swimsuit, if you're lucky enough to be staying in one of the cottages, you will have a cedar hot tub for your exclusive use! For those who like a cold plunge, the estate has a freshwater pond for wild swimming.
Yes, hair dryers and irons will be in each room. FYI, there are no plug sockets in UK bathrooms, so you'll have to use the air dryer in your bedroom.
There is also a steamer for dresses, just ask!
All of the Penicuik House rooms have a private ensuite—think of it like a little hotel just for us!
If you are staying in a cottage, you may be sharing a bathroom but we've allocated rooms so that it won't be with a stranger!
Since the estate was first designed in the 17th century, it has been all about rest and relaxation, nature, and architecture. During the down time between our events, we'd highly recommend exploring the estate's many walking trails or curling up with a good book in front of a crackling fire.
There will be maps outlining the landscape and walking trails when you arrive. The estate contains over 12 hectares of designed parkland, including a herd of highland cows and thousands of sheep. Please be mindful of all the livestock when exploring.
There is also a pond for wild swimming.
We hope you'll have everything you need on the estate and won't want to leave!
If you do need something, Penicuik Estate is just a mile outside the small town of Penicuik—a commuter town containing a few grocery stores and pharmacy, as well as some pubs and restaurants. It is a 5 minute drive on the main road or 25 minute walk via a beautiful woodland path — please refer to an estate map.
Edinburgh is also just about 30 minutes away for additional amenities.
